Louis Cartier (1875-1942) has been attested as the creator of the first man's wristwatch with the Santos-Dumont in 1904, named after Cartier's pilot friend. Publicly watches were sold from 1911 with Edmond Jaeger (1850-1922), later of LeCoultre, making their movements. Cartier was established as a jewellers in Paris from as early as 1847. Their reputation as a fine jewellers led them to become world renowned, and their inclusion of high quality watches has furthered their image of excellence and style. Popular models include: the Tank, the Santos, and French and American Tanks. The watches made pre-mid 1970s have very high quality movements, and are thus collectable.
